was founded in 1903 by Emil Bönnelycke, a Danish emigre, and did business under the name "Office of Emil Bönnelycke", until Mr. Bönnelycke passed away in 1936. The practice was continued under the name "Young, Emery and Thompson", the then junior partners, until Mr. Emery’s departure from the Firm in 1956. From 1956, the Firm has operated under its present name, which the current partners have elected not to change.
The Office of Emil Bönnelycke was one of the first U.S. firms specializing in international patent law. The practice of Young & Thompson has remained international in nature in the ensuing one hundred years.
Today, Young & Thompson enjoys a solid reputation among our overseas professional associates and direct corporate clientele as reliable and high-quality agents to whom their important U.S. industrial property matters can be safely entrusted. Indeed, a number of our clients have been with us continuously throughout most or all of the Firm’s one hundred year history.
Our cable address "EMBON" remains a tribute to our founder, although with the advent of telefax machines and e-mail we have not received a cable in recent memory. The "EMBON" tribute has now been revived, however, in our e-mail address.
