Mr. Mereness holds a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and a Juris Doctor from New York Law School (NYLS).  He learned computer programming as an undergraduate, and before enrolling in law school, spent 11 years as a computer professional which included work for the Tepper Graduate School of Business at CMU, designing and building the school’s first distance learning facility for teaching Master’s classes in Computational Finance (MSCF) New York.  As a law student, he interned with the New York City Dept. of Information Technology and Telecommunications, and was a founding fellow for the NYLS Institute for Information Law and Technology.


After earning his Juris Doctor with a Certificate of Mastery in Law Practice Technology, he served as a court attorney for the New York City Civil Court, where he served in court assisting judges and providing arbitration and settlement mediation for pro-se litigants, and as a computer programmer for developing the Tenant Answer Project, which provides computer-based legal advice in the New York City Housing Court. 


Since joining Young & Thompson in 2007 his practice has included preparation and prosecution of both U.S. and foreign patent applications in computer technology, software, networking, and security methods, mechanical devices and automotive technologies, optical technologies, robotics and automation, refrigeration and heating, electronics and semiconductors, material compositions, and medical devices.
