Mr. Long joined Young & Thompson in 1998 and is a partner in the Firm. He primarily prepares and prosecutes patent applications in the electrical/electronic arts, computer (including expert and database systems), and mechanical arts. In the past, his practice has included both patent and trademark prosecution, patent infringement litigation, and general client counseling. Mr. Long holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas (Austin), a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, and a Juris Doctor from the George Mason University School of Law. He also is a registered Professional Engineer in electrical engineering (Washington State).

In the U.S. Navy, Roland served as a Nuclear Power mechanical systems, chemistry and radiological controls instructor at the S1C Prototype in Windsor, Connecticut; and later served as a Civil Engineer Officer in assignments involving planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the Navy's shore facilities, included an assignment providing an abort landing site for the U.S. space shuttle in Morocco.
